What does the Lord require?

It’s obvious to all who have walked this earth that what we see and hear, and touch and smell didn’t just pop up by some mere accident. There is a Creator God. Many have and are, in a state of denial about that. But none the less it is a fact that can’t be denied.
The question becomes, what does The Creator God require of us. In Scripture we find the answer. We all tend to lean on doing good works. But the Lord says otherwise. Don’t count on your good deeds to be your ticket through the pearly gates.
Let me throw some words out to you. Forgiveness, gentleness, patience, kindness, obedience, goodness, self-control, meekness. These are all wrapped in a box called love. Note that all these supersede works. The works are a reflection of a heart filled with love and forgiveness. It’s not the works that get you into heaven.
Dare I say that the Lord isn’t even looking at the works. He is looking at the heart. He is looking at the way you treat your fellow man. He is looking at your faith in the face of adversity. He is looking at your gentleness as you encounter the rashest of people. He is looking at obedience as you face temptations. He is looking at your forgiveness as you forgive others their trespasses against you. He is looking at your kindness as you face the most hardened people. He is looking at your patience as you wait. You may have every reason to lash out at someone or something. Does He see your self-control?
These are the commandments of God. This is what it means to obey God. He desires obedience not sacrifice. Please look beyond the works. In yourself and others.
Works without love are like a noisy clanging out of rhythm cymbal. Meditate on what it means to Love. If you can understand what it means to love, and then love, you will be accepted into His Kingdom when you die. To love is the greatest of works.
This kind of love is only gotten as we ask Him who is love into our being. It’s His love working through us that enables us to do these greater works.
Wish as I may, wish as I might,
patience and kindness are out of sight.
I know what you require of me,
It’s forgiveness and mercy.
But my heart is estranged, my flesh so weak.
Even as you desire, that I be meek.
There is an answer, there is good news.
He will help me, and he will help you.
By His Holy Spirit, His love he will bring.
Shed abroad in our heart, from there it will spring.
