Don't be Hijacked / Come Lord Jesus

Don’t be Hijacked

We were created in God’s image.  The problem is that we were placed here, not in the Garden of Eden.  We are in a fallen world where thorns and thistles are.  In the Garden of Eden lush vegetation just happened to be there with no work required.  The earth can still produce the lush vegetation, but it requires a lot of sweat and tears to do it.

Likewise in the Garden of Eden we walked with God in the cool of the day.  We can still walk with God but again it requires more effort.  Back then God was available face to face.  Now, because of the curse He hides himself.  Essentially, sin has separated us from the presence of God.  A part of us died that day when humankind was banished from the Garden.

The second Adam (Jesus) came to reconcile us back to God.  But, again, the problem is that we are still stuck here in the cursed world.  God still hides himself, but He can be found if we seek him as we would seek gold and silver.  We can find him but at a cost.

We still have to live in this world.  Meaning we have to work to provide for ourselves.  In the world we are, but of the world we must not be.

And that is where I would like to elaborate on my topic of “Don’t be Hijacked.”  This world has a way of turning you around.  Not only in preventing you from fulfilling your dreams, by sowing seeds of doubt, but also distracting us from fulfilling the vital and important small things like setting time aside for your loved ones and spending time with them.

There are so many things that can hijack us from the “greater works” as I like to call them.  Let me list them.

1.)  The pursuit of riches.  We are like a flower planted.  We are here today, and we blossom, but soon the flower withers away.  The only thing that remains is what we have done in love.  There is no condemnation here with me.  This between God and you.  As you earnestly seek him, he leads you (to buy or sell, to stop or go, yes or no).  We must never look and judge anyone for what they have or don’t have.                                                                        Just know the more you have, the more you want.  Before you know it, you are entangled with the cares of this life.  That most assuredly chokes the Word.  Meaning you are so focused on the things of this world that you have little time left over for the good part, as Jesus told Martha; “Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”  Mary just wanted to sit at Jesus feet and take Him in.  Martha was a busy body whose life was all about works. Many times, riches are a snare.  Don’t fall for it.  It is so enticing.  We covet what others have.  Don’t go there!                                                                                    The main purpose of work or a career for the Christian is not to amass a kingdom here on earth but to further God’s Kingdom.  Our money is to be used to set the captive free, to heal the broken hearted, to give sight to the blind.

2.)  Sibling and childhood rivalries.

3.)  Goals and dreams.

4.)  Good works.

5.)  Fast cars shinny lights

6.)  Entertainment

7.)  Mind altering drugs.

8.)  Travel

9.)  Spare time endeavors.  There is nothing wrong with watching or participating in sports and having hobbies, etc.  But when they become a major focus of our life, to giving the Lord a back seat, it becomes an idol.  There is a jewel in all of this, that we must not miss. It is our relationships that we form, in our endeavors, that will stand the test of time and will come with us into eternity.  See, we can’t bring first place prizes and trophies and number one hit records into eternity.  But we can bring the love we showed to one another along the way, of all of our journeys.  Do you see what I mean.  It’s not so much as what we do, but how we relate and react to one another.  It’s the reaching out to someone in need.  To giving a hug when one is needed.  It’s a smile.  It’s the old attitude of it’s not if we win or lose but how we play the game.  I’m sorry coach Lombardi.  I know you are well revered, but winning isn’t everything.

Don’t allow yourself to be hijacked.  Don’t lose focus.  Keep your eye on the prize.  It’s the love that we have been given and in turn it’s that same love that we share with one another, that will bring us back to that Beautiful Garden one day.  Our eternal home.  Heaven. Where once again we will walk with God in the cool of the day.  Face to face.

He is coming soon.  Amen, come Lord Jesus.
